If you could rewind the tape to a summer afternoon when I was the age my kids are now, you’d find me rollerblading down the sidewalks of my neighborhood—one hand gripping a ski pole, the other clutching a walkie talkie. No helmet. No fear. Just wind in my hair and a wild imagination at play.
Why the walkie talkie? Because cell phones weren’t in the picture yet. I hadn’t earned my way to the Nokia brick phone with the changeable covers—my first taste of independent communication, and I treated it like gold.
